Beauty in Ashes

I am a woman of made of dust
Thought of as low because I seem unkempt
In my sorrow, I grieve
Not for a life lost
But for the joy in my living
I was taken from nothing,
A lump, if you will
Charred from the bitterness of life
And I have been shaped and molded for greatness,
Hope hidden within my bosom
Interlaced with love while in the womb
To some I was lost cause before I was even entered the world, though,
Yearning for something, a Being, that I can neither touch nor see
But, I draw strength.
From where?
The pit of which was once an internal hell,
But now has become an oasis, my Eden, within
I cannot help but be grateful for where I have come from,
This dust, for which some call hell
Full of praise, the sun shines bright
I refuse to be the sum of my negative circumstances,
No matter how gritty I may seem to you
To me, the grit, ash and all, is my beauty
My right to be defined by a Love greater than me
Greater than life itself
It is that love that told me to walk in purpose
That asked me if I wanted to be healed
That told me my faith has made me whole
That made me have faith in something
In myself
In life
Ash is now light
And it calls itself me.
