Preoccupied

PREOCCUPIED
I'm preoccupied, but not with the Savior
At least not like I should be
I'm preoccupied with worry, and stress, and people I shouldn't be
Caught up in ideas that lead nowhere
Feelings that tend to be one-sided
Fear to get going keeps me busy, too
Worrying about what people will think if I go left when they want me to go right
And it's killing me, because it's causing me nothing but grief
But I keep doing it, anyway
The insane part is that, I keep thinking it'll change if I stay where I am
Like Teena Marie, I need to go out on a limb
And trust that stepping out may be the key to me stepping up
Stepping up to where I need to be
Stepping up to purpose
Stepping up to what is genuinely me
I need to prioritize, put what's good first instead of what I think I need – my wants
Because wants can get me caught up in some shit I don't need to be in
Wants keep me preoccupied with how to get it
Keep me focusing on the pigeon and not the eagle
Wants may be fleeting, but needing can be forever
My wings are meant for soaring, not for frying
Which preoccupation does to you
Letting it go for something better
I will be occupied with peace, love, faith, and hope

Sincerely,
Alfreda
