On the second amendment

The second amendment of the US Constitution implies that its citizen has the right to bear arms. I'm all for that right. I have arms myself. Everyone should be able to protect themselves and their family, be it from militias or criminals. But, I also understand that the US Constitution guarantees that we all have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To me, that includes the need to feel safe wherever we go, gun or no gun. So, how do we reconcile protecting the right to bear arms with the right to purse life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?

I understand the need for gun control. Given the recent mass shootings that have occurred, from college and school campuses to the Charleston, SC, shooting, something needs to be done about any and everybody from getting a gun. (I never understood why one person needs 14-15 guns, or feels a need to have automatic weapons, but I digress.) I don't know how gun control looks. In the ideal world, guns would not end up in the hands of criminals and those that may have some mental illness. But, we all know that's not feasible, as some will find ways to access guns.

All I know is that there has to be some way where the government does not infringe on their rights, while organizations like the NRA does not infringe on the rights of those who believe in gun control. Every citizen should feel safe, whether they have guns or not.

Hopefully, we all can come together to figure out how to protect the second amendment as well as protect our right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
