Spiritual Relationship Thought

I am watching this PBS special called "Sacred Journeys with Bruce Feiler. In it, he is in Jerusalem talking to people of three major faiths (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) and how they interact. I find all three religions to be beautiful in their own right. Yes, there are things about all three that I don't fully understand or agree with, but, one thing I admire about most of the people that practice them is this: There's something so beautiful about people who are passionate about their RELATIONSHIP with their God, NOT their RELIGION!

I am fortunate to have friends of all faiths, even those who do not believe in a god, or are agnostic. And, to watch some of them in prayer and everyday life, you know their life, whether at church or in public, is more than religion and a set of rules. You know that God is within them. You know they live their beliefs, not just preach it. For instance, I grew up knowing a few Catholic people, but did not grow up Catholic. However, after Katrina, I stayed with a Catholic family. And the way she prayed was just so different from what I experienced Catholics to pray. She was just so genuine in her spirituality and walk with God, it made me want to connect to God on a bigger level.

There are so many people that get caught up in laws and trivial man-made rules that discourage people from knowing God on a personal level. So, it is refreshing to find people that do abide by religious laws, but are also bearers of humanity and dignity.
